How to Use Your Human Design Type For Business

When I tell people I’m a Projector, they look at me funny. Where is my screen? My buttons? Where’s the lens?

When I follow up with, “No, I mean I’m a Projector in Human Design,” they look at me even funnier.

I don’t blame them; just a few years ago, I’d never heard of Human Design either. But then Kathrin Zenkina interviewed an HD expert on her podcast, Manifestation Babe, and I promptly went down the rabbit hole.

While I’m still a student of the Human Design system, I’ve found it so helpful in designing my business that it seems kinda mean not to share. I will tell you not only what Human Design is and how it originated, but I will also explain why you should care; what it can do for you. And, of course, I’ll give you some tips to get started using your Human Design to your benefit.

Here we go.

WTF is Human Design?

Human Design is often described as your personal “owner’s manual” for life. I’ve used it in my business to create daily routines and schedules that maximize my productivity and align with my natural energy flow. And since you’re the owner or CEO of your business, you can also use it to tailor your business model to better fit your unique needs.

If this is the first you’ve heard of Human Design, allow me to explain what it is. Brace yourself, though, because some of this stuff is a little out there.

Human Design was developed in the late 1980s by combining the principles of astrology, the Chinese I Ching, the Kabbalah, the Hindu Brahmin Chakra System, and quantum physics. It took all of the tenets of these systems, mashed them together, and produced a wildly complex, chart-based system in which each individual has their own unique energetic makeup. All these details are shown in what’s called a bodygraph (example below). Because there are so many variables, you’ll probably go your whole life and never meet anyone with the exact same graph as you.

Human Design can help you understand your unique energy blueprint and how to live in alignment with it. I’ve noticed that whenever I’m feeling funky, I’ve deliberately gone against my Human Design, and I can quickly bounce back when I pay attention and get back into alignment with my chart. It’s not a set of “rules” per se, but I feel like it’s a cheat code.

How can Human Design help you run your business?

Understanding your Human Design allows you to align your work with your natural strengths and tendencies. Here are some tangible ways knowing and aligning with your Human Design can help you run your business.

  1. Maximize productivity: When you understand your Human Design, you can work in a way that aligns with your natural energy flow. This means you can achieve better results with less effort.
  2. Better decision-making: By understanding your decision-making style, you can make choices that align with your natural tendencies and avoid strategies that may not work well for you.
  3. Improved communication: When you understand your own communication style, you can adapt your communication to be more effective when working with others with different types.
  4. Increased self-awareness: By understanding your natural tendencies and strengths, you can better understand your motivations and goals and work towards achieving them in a way that aligns with your natural energy.

When you pull your Human Design chart, you’ll quickly find out there’s a lot of information in it. It’s way too much to digest right away; don’t even try. For this article, we will dip our toes in the water and talk about your Type.

What Are “Types” in Human Design?

Simply put, your Type represents how your energy works. You can almost think of it like your blood type. But instead of being Type A, B, AB, or O, in Human Design, your Type will be either Generator, Manifestor, Projector, or Reflector.

Generators: The Worker Bees

Generators comprise around 70% of the population, and their natural energy is focused and sustainable. They have the ability to work hard and maintain that work over a long period. Generators are often referred to as “worker bees” because of their consistent energy and their ability to get things done.

If you’re a generator, you’ll want to structure your day in a way that allows you to use your energy in a sustainable way. You’ll want to focus on tasks that align with your passions and interests because these will help you maintain your energy levels throughout the day.

Manifesting Generators: The Multitaskers

Manifesting Generators are a combination of generators and manifestors, meaning they have both the consistent energy of a generator and the ability to manifest their desires like a manifestor. They have the ability to do multiple tasks at once, and they thrive on variety and change.

If you’re a Manifesting Generator, you’ll want to structure your day in a way that allows you to multitask and move quickly between tasks. You’ll also want to prioritize rest and relaxation; like Generators, burning out is a real risk for Manifesting Generators who overwork themselves.

Projectors: The Observers

Projectors make up around 20% of the population, and their natural energy is focused and observant. They have the ability to see the big picture and recognize opportunities that others may overlook.

If you’re a projector, you’ll want to structure your day in a way that allows you to use your energy in a focused and observant way. Projectors shouldn’t work too many hours at a time because they need more rest than Generators and Manifesting Generators.

Manifestors: The Innovators

Manifestors make up around 8% of the population, and their natural energy is creative and innovative. They have the ability to initiate projects and make things happen.

If you’re a manifestor, you’ll want to structure your day in a way that allows you to use your energy in a creative and innovative way.

Reflectors: The Mirrors

Reflectors make up less than 1% of the population, and their natural energy is reflective and intuitive. They have the ability to mirror the energy of the people around them and reflect it back.

If you’re a reflector, you’ll want to structure your day in a way that allows you to use your energy in a reflective and intuitive way.

Okay, that’s cool. What now?

The Human Design System is a helpful tool for small business owners who want to create a daily routine and schedule that aligns with their unique energy type. By understanding your energy type and designing a daily routine that honors it, you’ll be able to maximize your productivity and creativity while avoiding burnout.

If you’re brand new to Human Design, your next step is to pull your chart and see what Type you are. I’ll be going over the other major elements of Human Design in future posts, but for now, try experimenting with your Type and see how things shift in your business.

P.S. If you really want to dive into the Human Design System, the book you need is called Human Design: The Definitive Book of Human Design. You can buy it on Amazon here.
