Hi! I’m Katelyn, a freelance writer based in Rockford.
My passion for writing began in elementary school, but I didn’t consider it a career option until college, when I landed an on-campus job writing for Millikin University’s alumni magazine. Despite the job application clearly stating they were looking for English and communication majors to fill this role, I—a music business major—applied anyway. A brazen act of rebellion, I know.
A few months into the job, the editor called me into her office. She said she enjoyed the articles I’d written for the magazine and wanted to know if I’d ever thought about pursuing a career in writing. It wasn’t long before I found myself in the registrar’s office declaring a new field of study.
Over the past 15 years, I’ve had the opportunity to author posts for top-ranked blogs, contribute articles to local publications, and even write scripts for news anchors to read on air. I love getting the chance to bring someone’s story to life or turn a complex subject into something everyone can easily understand.
